I’m finally trying to get in shape, and so, during a recent vacation to Traverse City, Michigan, I found myself running at 8:00 a.m. along the Grand Traverse Bay (which is absolutely beautiful, by the way). In my sleepy, jogging stupor, I glanced across the street and saw a bearded man riding on a four-wheeled platform being pulled by five white huskies! I slowed down to watch as he calmly rode on. His team of tiny pullers even paused a moment to let a truck pull into a McDonald’s parking lot before continuing down a sidewalk not much wider than the cart they were pulling.
When I got back home, my family thought I had lost my mind. But thanks to the Internet, I have no need to doubt my sanity. Apparently, I saw Mike King, who fell in love with a husky rescue dog and decided to start a business giving dog-sled rides in Traverse City. After a bit more digging, I found that the Pure Michigan website actually advertises dog-sled rides as an attraction! I had no idea.
Has anyone taken one of these rides? If nothing else, it made for an interesting run.
